Data Shows Remarkable Progress in Training Community Digital Champions and Citizens

The DEGESI project has released its mid-term results, showcasing significant achievements in its goal to foster digital inclusion. To date, the project has successfully trained 9,408 Community Digital Champions (CDCs) and provided foundational digital literacy to 73,528 citizens across the four target counties.

The results, drawn from rigorous baseline and endline surveys, indicate statistically significant improvements in digital competencies. The most substantial gains were recorded in practical, livelihood-oriented areas such as Online Work Skills, Digital Entrepreneurship, and Accessing Government Services.

A standout achievement is the project’s success in promoting gender equity. Among CDC applicants, a near-perfect gender balance of 49.6% female participation was achieved. Furthermore, the broader citizen training reached a majority of women and girls, who constitute 57.4% of participants.

“These figures are more than just data; they represent thousands of individuals now equipped to participate in the digital economy,” stated a DEGESI manager. “We are particularly encouraged by the high skill gains in modules that directly lead to income generation and improved access to essential services.”

The project has also established strong partnerships with county governments and downstream partners like KALRO to ensure the training translates into real-world benefits, particularly for smallholder farmers.

“These results are impressive! The 49.6% female participation rate is particularly encouraging. As a woman in tech, I know how important it is to get more women digitally literate. Hongera DEGESI team!”

“The focus on practical skills like online work and entrepreneurship is what sets this project apart. Too many digital literacy programs stop at basic computer skills. This actually leads to economic empowerment!”
