About us

Digitally Enabled Gender Equity and Social Inclusion for Disadvantaged and Excluded Communities in Kenya.

To bolster socio-economic empowerment among digitally excluded persons through access to digital services in a safe and secure environment; foster gender equity and promote social inclusion leading to improved incomes, food security, and livelihoods.

Context & Need

The project addresses the persistent digital divide that hinders women and girls, senior citizens, youths, smallholder farmers, and Persons with Disabilities from benefiting from the digital economy. Building on the success of previous UK-funded projects, DEGESI focuses on Kenya’s most marginalized counties: Elgeyo Marakwet, Garissa, Wajir, and Turkana.

Project Summary

We deploy tested models like Training of Trainers (ToT) and Community Digital Champions (CDCs) to impart foundational digital skills, create awareness, and facilitate access to digital content and affordable internet, using the national curriculum approved by the ICT Authority (ICTA).

The Challenge We Address

In today’s rapidly evolving world, digital skills are no longer a luxury—they are a necessity. Yet, for women and girls, senior citizens, smallholder farmers, and persons with disabilities in marginalized counties, the digital divide remains a significant barrier to economic and social progress. This exclusion limits their access to essential services, market information, and livelihood opportunities, perpetuating cycles of poverty and inequality.

Our Solution in a Nutshell

The Digitally Enabled Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (DEGESI) project is a comprehensive, three-year initiative funded by the UK Government. We don’t just provide training; we build complete digital ecosystems. Our proven model empowers communities from the ground up by training local Community Digital Champions (CDCs), who then cascade knowledge and support to their fellow citizens.
