About the DEGESI Project

DEGESI stands for Digitally Enabled Gender Equity and Social Inclusion. It is a project aimed at bridging the digital divide for marginalized communities in Kenya.

The project is funded by the UK Government through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and is implemented by the African Centre for Women, Information and Communications Technology (ACWICT) in partnership with the ICT Authority of Kenya, county governments, and other downstream partners.

DEGESI focuses on four counties in Kenya: Turkana, Wajir, Garissa, and Elgeyo Marakwet. These were selected based on high poverty indices and significant digital exclusion.

To enhance socio-economic empowerment among digitally excluded persons—including women and girls, senior citizens, smallholder farmers, and persons with disabilities—by providing digital literacy, access to services, and livelihood opportunities in a safe and inclusive environment.

The project prioritizes:

1.Women and girls

2.Youth (aged 18–35)

3.Smallholder farmers

4.Senior citizens/older adults

5.Persons with disabilities (PWDs)

6.Residents of Turkana, Wajir, Garissa, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

You can apply through announcements made via local administrators, our partners (like county governments), or directly through ACWICT. Watch for mobilization drives in your sub-county or visit the Get Involved page on this website for current opportunities.
